Yarn time

Selina | Knitting, spinning | Friday, 27 June 2008

I am done with my degree. I do not have to do anything more except getting the diploma on the 25th July.

I spent most of my time prior to being done with spinning, as it does not involve counting or much thinking and made some lovely yarn. Snoopy helped by supervising the drying process of yarn, took care that no one screwed around with it and made sure it looks lovely.

Here are some close ups of the yarn. It’s 140g and 597m. The knitting needle in the photo is a 2.5mm.

I started some toe up with this yarn and actually should have enough yarn to make two pairs - one for me and one for my mom.

This and that …

Selina | School & Work | Tuesday, 24 June 2008

just got another thanks, but no thanks letter in the mail. No job for me yet .. and we both want out so bad. I guess most are worried because I am married and could have kids (like unmarried females never have babies). So after tomorrow, when my presentation and the offical finish of my degree will be, I will send out more applications.

On a different note, my godmom mentioned a creative business she’d like to do with me if we lived close. And I like that idea more and more. While I love being a surveyor, I also know that my GM has many friends, good social skills and connections .. so opening something with her could bring in money. Will need to think about that and talk to her on Saturday, so maybe there’ll be exciting news after all.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Selina | Family | Tuesday, 24 June 2008

Yep, today’s my dad’s birthday. He’s 53 now. Sadly, he did not get to spend the day with his family as he had to travel for work until Thursday. Party will be on Saturday with my aunts, uncles and whoever else is showing up - this is going to be so much fun.

Happy Dance - Aurora Bag

Selina | Knitting | Monday, 23 June 2008

I finally finished something that I have been working on since a while. Actually, it was only missing a zipper for a while until I finally got to make myself go out and buy one. Anyway, here’s my Aurora Bag - isn’t it a beauty? And very useful, too.

I was RAKed … and some school news

Selina | Gifts Exchanges & Co, School & Work | Monday, 23 June 2008

First the unpleasant news (at least for me), Wednesday 10AM is the presentation for my final thesis. I am about to be done writing it up the presentation in Power Point and will be able to try it out later today and tomorrow. After that, I am free until the 25th July when I get my diploma on a party.  Can’t wait.

Now to better news - at least for me - I got RAK(Random Act of Kindness)ed today. I joined a group on Ravelry for RAKs, posted my wishlist and Maylin from France treated me with this wonderful package. I got some lovely, pinkish lace weight yarn, some Kool Aid for dying, different kinds of roving as well as some fire star (middle, front of the pic) which adds sparkly to the roving and turns into a lovely sparkly yarn, and a lovely postcard showing some Blue Faced Leicester sheep, which I have not seen before. Thank you so much, Maylin, you sure made my day with this beautiful package :)

My books - aka my final thesis - aka Universe vs. me

Selina | me | Monday, 16 June 2008

Sometimes I truely believe the universe hates me. Seriously. Sorry for this personal rant, but I thought I’d share it on here.

Today, I went to my parents to get my thesis from the printer. It was utterly, 100% terribly made. Not only was it not a book, it also was horribly cut as well as ugly printed. Well, I hope you can somehow see the horribleness of this version in this photo below.

To make a long story short, I drove home to a copy shop here, met my aunt and uncle by a luckily accident, got money to get my copies and got home with beautifully thesis books. Aren’t they yummy?

New Yarn

Selina | spinning | Saturday, 14 June 2008

Here’s my new yarn that I talked about in my last post. It came out at around 20-22ish WPI, 2 plied, 43 grams and 164 meters. It is at points slightly underplied, but that’s ok. I think I might spin more of this yarn and make a stole/shawl/wrap our of it. I also think I might die it. Not sure.

Aurora Bag

Selina | Knitting | Saturday, 14 June 2008

Now that I can forget about my thesis for now, I decided to do some spinning, knitting and stitching. Not all at the same time, but I finished plying some yarn earlier and this is now drying. No photos yet. I stitched on the RR, but no photo yet.

However, here’s the photo of my Aurora Bag I am working on. I love this piece. The yarn is perfect for it. I need to knit one more pocket and then the handles.

D O N E

Selina | me | Saturday, 14 June 2008

I just sent off my thesis to the printer after a having a nervous break down yesterday (had to work 12 hours, ate nothing, drank hardly anything - do not ask). Making the final touches was a real pain in the b##t. I do hope I caught all errors and everything. Either way, it’s off now and will be nicely printed and turned into 122 pages books. I need 6 copies (one for us, one for my parents and the rest for school), which will cost a big fortune.

Tomorrow will be my day off. On Monday I will start doing the presentation and Tuesday I will pick up my books and give them to the profs.

Thanks everyone for all the lovely comments you left the last few posts :) Now that most of my work is done, I will be able to comment and talk more again :)

Oh .. and I went the doc last Monday and got antibiotics - which is always very troublesome for me as I have allergies to 99.9% of them. So far, this time I am lucky and nothing too bad happened yet. So hopefully it’ll stay like that.

Sorry …

Selina | Family | Saturday, 07 June 2008

.. to everyone coming here for crafty photos. There are none. I have not done anything for quite a bit. No time and too exhausted. My dad had a mini stroke last week. Quite a shock, but he’s doing ok (more or less).

I hope to be back on track again in a few days, so I can share craft photos.

My thesis is more or less approved now, only some minor changes and I am done. I already got the invitation for the graduation - can’t wait. Will need to see who will come, so I can let the college now.  No job news yet. I think it’s mainly because I am not graduated yet.

Sick

Selina | me | Tuesday, 03 June 2008

I think I am finally getting the cold which germs bugged me since Christmas, so my throat and head hurts. Not even ice cream helped me really. It’s only 8AM and I am pretty tired.

Other than that, not much up. No job news so far. I will meet the Prof tomorrow as I fixed most of my thesis. Hope it is approved now and I can do the presentation in 2ish weeks. Can’t wait to be done and to be able to move.
